The Redbacks have struggled early this season with three losses and two wins before they face the third-place Macleay Valley Rangers at Vince Inmon Sporting Complex from 3pm on Saturday, May 18.
A win could see them gain some much needed points to rise above their seventh ladder placing flanked by Tuncurry Forster in eighth and Taree Wildcats in sixth.
Redbacks Premier League co-coach Riley Papas said last week's 2-1 victory by the Port Saints over the Redbacks was disappointing but showing improvement.
"We've got to tighten up from the whistle to prevent early goals because we did concede goals to Port Saints," he said.
"Certainly I felt across the game we deserved to get something out of that, our second half was better and managed to put some shots at them.
"We're improving the way we play and have been working on how to break teams apart."
The Redbacks took a harsh 1-6 loss to the top of the table Port United FC in March and Papas said this weekend's game could be another tough one.
"It's going to be a tough game so we have to kick on and change our fortunes," he said.
"We're always working on changing our structure with better movement for decent scoring opportunities.
"There has been a lot of improvement in the last couple of weeks, I've loved every second of coaching."
