RCI Group has lodged a development application to build a service station, convenience store and takeaway premises with on-site parking on the corner of Ocean Drive and Ackroyd Street.
The project, with a cost of about $4.5 million on completion, would be built in two stages with the service station and convenience store in stage one.
The fast food premises would come next with flexibility for one or two outlets.
RCI Group development manager Stephen Moore said the location appealed because it had decent traffic, was on the fringe of the CBD and had limited competition.
The development is earmarked on the north-western corner of the Ocean Drive and Ackroyd Street intersection.
It is proposed the Mobil-branded service station would trade 24-hours a day when it opened with the viability of the 24-hour trading weighed up down the track.
The development would be accessed off Ackroyd Street and Ocean Drive.
Mr Moore said the development would create jobs during construction and ongoing employment.
The development application is in progress with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
If all goes to plan, work on the site would be expected to start within two to three months of receiving approval.
Construction would take 16 to 18 weeks.
Mr Moore stressed the safety associated with the service station.
"There is no threat for contamination," he said.
The development would have 33 on-site car parking spaces including 16 spaces in stage one.
The proposed development is allowable on the site with consent, given the zoning.
