Wauchope, Laurieton and Port Macquarie stations will be on duty for tours of the station, equipment shows and talking about their daily call outs from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, May 18.

Members of the public can also expect live demonstrations, station activities, safety presentations, gift packs for kids, fire safety information and sausage sizzles.

Fire and Rescue NSW Port Macquarie station commander Gaven Muller said there was no better chance to see firefighting and rescue equipment.

"It will be a fun day for the kids and for those that attend early we will have a special surprise for the kids," he said.

"We welcome all people to come along, there is disability parking and I think most of the community is interested in firefighting," he said.

"We also deal with building compliance, fire suppression, entry exit compliance, structural collapse as well as urban search and rescue."

Station officer Dawn Maynard said it is a great opportunity to talk to the experts about home fire safety in the lead up to winter.

"We do fight fires and save people from burning buildings, but our mission and our capabilities extend far beyond fire response," she said.

"From road crashes, hazardous material incidents and natural disasters to urban search and rescue and humanitarian relief, our firefighters are prepared for anything and ready to help anyone, anytime, anywhere.

"We see a ten per cent increase in the number of home fires during the winter months, with more fires starting in bedrooms and lounge rooms due to things like heaters and electric blankets.

"Come and meet the team that's prepared for anything on Open Day and learn how to keep your family safe from fire and other emergencies."
