The project is hosted by Hastings Valley Community of Schools with short films created by students age five to 17.
The inaugural visual literacy collection features 25 short films, created by 280 students and shown to audiences at Port Macquarie's Majestic Cinemas from May 8, 9 and 15.
Coordinator Karen Noble said the event aims to spark creativity and imagination in students through visual literacy and film.
"About 280 kids were involved in the filming process with students learning about story boarding, acting and other skills for their visual literacy studies," she said.
"Although there is no set theme, a lot of movies feature the themes of friendship, playing, for younger creation as well as stop motion animation, clay animation, green screen for adult students.
"On the movie nights kids can sit and watch with their parents, have a laugh," he said.
"We've been blown away by the standard of films and the opportunity to showcase them through a community partnership with Majestic Cinemas."
The Film By initiative is proving so popular that the initial Hollywood themed evenings from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on May 8 and 9 had to be expanded to May 15, after which all three sold out.
Each film runs for a maximum of three minutes and thirty seconds, has no unified theme and are G rated.
"These short films show that anyone can be involved in film making," said Ms Noble.
"It's giving kids in regional areas an opportunity to learn about acting, project management, script writing, time management useful for many 21 century jobs."
The project was headed by the training of local teachers in two day workshops, before students were tasked with creating a finished product earlier this year.
"I'd like to say a thanks to all the teachers, it's a lot of work on top of what they do and it's going to grow, and to Majestic who have helped through process helped technically."
