THE beef cattle competition swelled with record entries at the 108th Wauchope Show on Saturday, April 7 but it was a stunning big female Brahman that turned heads.

Owned by Banarra Brahams at Tipperary, near Krambach, and paraded by Ashlee Stanton of Kempsey High School, the prize cow was named the grand champion of the show.
Coming in reserve champion was the stud bull of the show, a mighty Hereford owned Rodney and Tracey Kemp, paraded by Katie Barnett of Kempsey High School.
The school championship went to Chatham High School with students taking out first and second place while Taree High came in third with their prize specimen.
Beef cattle competition steward David Croft said entries in this years competition have broken records.
We had 115 entries which is the most weve had in a number of years, Mr Croft said from the show ring.
We had 104 competitors in the junior division, 12 different breeds on show and 45 steers.
This type of competition aims to teach the young ones good care of animals, responsibility, the ability to parade and show preparation.
Bellingen High School entered for the first time this year with Hastings agricultural high schools well represented.
In the goat arena, Nea Hosking took out the grand champion dairy doe of the year.
Supreme udder of the show went to Markku Ollinkoski of Rollands Plains.
Senior champion doe went to Darrell and Nea Hosking with Brigalow Khloe.
The junior champion doe honours went to Sue Seager of Collombatti.
In the poultry pavilion there were more clucks that quacks.
Hosted by the Wauchope Poultry Society the competition attracted almost 330 entries.
The 2018 Bird of the Show title went to Phillip Wilson of Rollands Plains with his Rhode Island Red.
Reserve champion went to Beverley Flanagan with her Pitt Game while Robert Scott with his Australord took out the large bird category.
Thousands of people passed through the gates with this years show hailed a success.
The day ended with the woodchop, traditional grand parade and naming of the 2018 Wauchope Showgirl.
The winner of the Junior Showgirl was Hannah Light and the runner up was Simone Ducker.
Supreme Hack of the show went to Galloway Hack ridden by Jade Pollard.
The 2018 Wauchope Show concludes with high-end demolition derby action in the main arena.
