The 57 year old Melbournian began his 15134km footrace on March 10, passing through Port Macquarie with 1400kms completed on April 12.
Jones and his trusty 100kg buggy called 'Intrepid II' travelled from Nabiac to Coopernook before making their way to Port Macquarie for a quick rest stop, then on to Kempsey and Coffs Harbour.
"My family had booked a rest day in Port Macquarie and the accommodation was very nice," he said.
"We went to the markets, had a rest day and chilling there.
"I can say I hated the footpaths there because some were broken or didn't go anywhere, Port Macquarie is not alone in this because a lot of towns have that issue."
He said the trip is equivalent to more than 358 marathons, is expected to last 343 days across all four states, visit 219 towns and wear out 15 pairs of shoes.
"I'm fine so far, we have had a few issues with the buggy but generally repairs have been quite easy," he said.
"While I'm running I'm always hoping for no hills and what I think about varies day by day.
"I enjoy scenery as I can."
He has previously run solo from Melbourne to Darwin in March 2017, covering 3700kms in 93 days.
Along the way Jones is raising funds for GO Foundation, beyondblue, Royal Flying Doctors and The Smith Family - a total currently standing at $11,454 with a goal of $60,000.
"I try to get up before dawn to start the day with enough light for it to be safe," he said.
"Sometimes I cover 35kms and sometimes 60km, it's usually about six to nine hours a day.
"I do walk up and down hills, stop for coffee and a chat, you meet a lot of fantastic people.
"There can be heart warming and heart rending stories."
Some of the larger challenges for the trip include the longest day a 68.3km hike from William Bay to Albany in Western Australia on November 14 and the 3,500km Savannah Way across northern Australia.
