Residents watched on from the gallery as Sanctuary Springs-Greenmeadows Action Group committee member Denis Lane, representing his community, addressed the April council meeting.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has identified a proposed orbital road investigation corridor but a final route is yet to be determined.
Sanctuary Springs-Greenmeadows Action Group is among several action groups to voice concerns.
Mr Lane said the council strongly reinforced its own positive views of the road plan to the community in the recent public engagement sessions and offered no alternatives.
"There have got to be smarter traffic management solutions worth considering," he said.
Mr Lane said nature was the greatest show on earth and many of us in Port Macquarie, and indeed the region, were privileged to experience this performance every day.
"If we let it go little by little for immediate satisfaction, rampant development, obscure economic benefit, minor savings in road travel times for the few, then soon it will entirely collapse to the detriment of the whole community," he said.
The orbital road is proposed as an east-west link (Ocean Drive to Oxley Highway), a north-south link (Oxley Highway to Boundary Street) and a flood-free route to the Port Macquarie Airport.
An engagement report is planned to go before the June council meeting as a result of the initial consultation period.
More than 1700 people shared their views at the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's consultation sessions and more than 17,000 people looked at the proposal on the council's website.
The submissions, surveys and feedback will be collated and analysed for inclusion in an engagement report to be presented to the council in June.
