The Seabin device is an Australian innovation that is used to capture floating debris and litter, including oil scum from waterways.
Megan Stevens from Coastal Warriors said the device works through suction.
"It sucks in marine debris from on top of the water and they can also suck it up from below," Ms Stevens said.
"It has an oil pad so it can get oil scum and fuel diesel engine oil."
Ms Stevens said marine debris is a big issue on the North Coast.
"Marine debris and plastic pollution in the oceans are something that is growing.
"I would estimate there will be more plastic in the sea than fish by 2050."
Coastal Warriors raised more than $7,500 for the installation of the Seabins.
In 2018 the NSW EPA awarded Port-Macquarie Hastings Council $77, 4000 under the Council Litter Prevention Grants program funding for the Seabins and other marine litter projects.
