Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will not hold Tastings on Hastings in 2019 after a process to secure an event coordinator yielded no responses.
Ewetopia Farm's Ian McKittrick said the council's decision was very disappointing.
"The council is clearly not interested in promoting this area as a regional food destination," he said.
Mr McKittrick believes the decision not to stage the 2019 event will impact on producers and result in lost promotional opportunities for the region.
"It's about growing a local culture and a local group of producers who can produce something a bit regional and a bit different," he said.
"Without that, there's nothing here to distinguish us from anything else."
The last Tastings on Hastings was in 2017 after the council put its resources into a bicentenary event in 2018 instead of the foodie festival.
Deputy mayor Lisa Intemann said Tastings on Hastings was a much-loved event, however, the council had come to a point where no responses were received for a 2019 event coordinator.
She said the council needed to look at the broader Port Macquarie-Hastings events plan and look to see where the future of this event might go and council's involvement with it.
The council is working on a new Port Macquarie-Hastings events plan.
Staff resources which would have been needed to deliver the 2019 event and the short time frame were part of the discussion at the April council meeting.
Cr Mike Cusato said Tastings on Hastings had lost its way a little bit as far as its model and concept.
"I believe Tastings on Hastings will not finish," he said.

But Cr Cusato said a model was needed for the event to continue into the future.
"Let's make this event more powerful, let's make it more community oriented and the stakeholders need to get more involved," he said.
Cr Rob Turner said the council in December 2018 voted eight nil to deliver Tastings on Hastings in 2019.
"I don't see why we should change our minds at this late stage," he said.
Cr Turner said Tastings on Hastings was not only a loved community event but an economic development opportunity for the agriculture, food and wine industries, as well as a worthwhile tourism event.
Cr Geoff Hawkins said the council had invested a lot of money on Tastings on Hastings and the event had a brand name.
"I don't want to see it killed off which is what I think this will effectively lead to," he said about the council decision.
More than 14,500 people attended the weekend program of events in the 15th Tastings on Hastings in October 2017.
That event resulted in a direct visitor spend of $349,622 and had an estimated total economic impact of $1.1 million.
The 2017 event had a net cost to council of $46,480.
Meanwhile, the council is working on a new council events plan which will explore the value of events to the community and region and the council's role in delivering and/or supporting a diverse range of events.
The council says community events create a shared sense of place, build a vibrant and connected community, activate our public spaces and showcase our region to visitors and this plan maps out how it was going to achieve these outcomes.
Part of the planning will include community consultation and councillors listening to feedback on what events our community would like to see.
It will also explore the grants and sponsorship structure and how the council supports events into the future including how the budget for Tastings on Hastings might be allocated.
The Tastings on Hastings vote was carried four to three with Crs Mike Cusato, Lisa Intemann, Justin Levido and Peta Pinson for and Peter Alley, Geoff Hawkins and Rob Turner against.
