A surprisingly early humpback whale is breaking local photography records as it journeys past Port Macquarie, almost a month ahead of schedule.

Local whale snapper Jodie Lowe photographed the eight to ten metre, juvenile visitor as it cruised slowly 200 metres off shore from Lighthouse Beach around 11.30am on April 15.
Ms Lowe took the shots using a DLSR camera with telescopic lens as chief photographer for Port Cruise Adventures, after the whale was spotted from the coast around 10am.
"This one was very very early, beating my earliest photographed sighting of April 25 in 2014," she said.
"This one was very, very friendly.
"(When I'm taking photos I'm) always waiting for it to do something such as breach, unfortunately this one didn't.
"I like capturing the moments, it's really special and to provide that memory for people.
"Every trip is different."
The traditionally whale watching season doesn't start until the second week of May and usually continues until the first week of November.
