Across the six volumes, the Census covers some 36, 500 inhabitants and captures a social and economic picture of the Colony of NSW in November 1828, 40 years after its establishment.
Senior archivist at State Records NSW Gail Davis spoke to a packed room about the census at Port Macquarie Library on April 11.
"I spoke about the type information that people can find in the census, if they are using it to find family history or other historical studies, how it is collected and so forth," Ms Davis said.
She said the Census has been used for a variety of reasons.
"One gentlemen attending the talk said that was how he first became involved in doing family history.
"He used the Census as jumping off point for doing the family history."
The six volumes have been digitised and are all available on our website for people to look at in an eBook format.
