Residents and visitors are in a flap as they to pluck a winner from the flock of more than 2000 plastic ducks released into the Kooloonbung Creek, from 10am to 1pm on April 21.
Over $10,000 was donated to local charities across the Hastings from last year's event hosted by the Port Macquarie Lions.
Race coordinator Colin Hardwick said spectators of the first-past-the-post race can sponsor a duck in the Business House Duck Race and the Public Duck Race.
"The water course is about 100 metres, we have two races with a business and public race," he said.
"We're hoping to clear 500 ducks for the business one and sell 1500 for the public one, which has a prize of $500."
"The event is Port Macquarie Lion's major fund raiser for the year.
"There are also barbecues and coffee, face painting and prizes on the day."
This year's benefiting organisations include Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse, Hastings Education Fund and Marine Rescue.
Port Macquarie Lions Club president Ian Turner offered some tips to getting your ducks in a line and picking a winning bird on race day.
"Always a good idea to pick a shiny plastic coast, a twinkle in the eye and shiny beak," he laughed.
"They might take a while but they get there in the end.
"It's a unique race because it can be held in middle of town and appeals well to kids and families."
Tickets in the public race are available for sale in local shopping centres and will be available on the day, depending on available ducks.
