While they didn't keep official score, it gave SCAS an indication of where they needed to be - especially with their under-18 team.

Girls in the under-14, under-16 and under-18 divisions battled for bragging rights in seven-a-side contests.

SCAS personal development, health and physical education coordinator Morgan Critchley said the day was also a good opportunity to help Wauchope prepare for the girls rugby competition next term.

"Matt Taylor is the rugby coach for Wauchope and he just loves the game," Critchley said.

"His under-18 girls won the state final last year so he was looking for a friendly match before the competition starts next term and my girls equally love rugby as well so the more games we can get the better."

"We had it at our school just to get some of the younger girls - especially in primary school - to come out and have a watch.

"We can also see how our 18s measured up to their 18s."

Critchley admitted the SCAS girls "smashed it".

"They were friendlies so we didn't keep score, but in the second game we played against them, at the end of the first half it was two tries to nil our way.

"I think they got up by one try at the end."

The under-14 and under-16 teams showed a lot of promise in their matches with the under-14s showing why they made the state finals last year.

"Our under-14s are a very strong team for their age; they understand the rules, have good tackling technique and are good in attack and defence," Critchley said.

"I couldn't have been prouder of them; just the way they were brave.

"Our girls are pretty small and each one of them got smashed at one point and they got straight back up.

"Across the board the girls did awesome; you wouldn't think they just started playing for a year."

The 10-a-side competition will start next term with SCAS expected to field teams in the under-14s and under-16s.

"It will be a very interesting year, all three of our teams could do well," Critchley said.

"Our under-14s were our most successful last year, but our under-16s have the most numbers."
