Two buildings at 24 Clarence Street are earmarked for demolition to make way for a proposed Italian restaurant and bar.
A development application for the plan is in progress with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
The documentation cites an estimated cost of $1.2 million.
The Darzi Group bought the land about two years ago with a vision to create a restaurant which offered an experience to diners and contributed to the streetscape.
The Sicilian Restaurant and Bar would have three zones - a cafe/bar, casual elegant-style restaurant and alfresco dining.
"It's a unique site in the middle of town," Mr Darzi said.
"I think we will build something Port Macquarie and the area have not seen before.
"We want to bring a piece of Sicily to Port Macquarie."
Mr Darzi from The Sicilians has restaurants at Taree and Forster.
The proposed new restaurant would be located between Port Macquarie Museum and the Garrison Building, and opposite the Port Macquarie Historic Courthouse.
The building design includes five entrance archways and decorative steel gates, a central fountain, and alfresco dining area landscaped with planters and hanging gardens.
The proposed restaurant would offer several dining experiences.
Port Macquarie's All About Planning and Craig Teasdell Architect are among those working on the project.
Mr Teasdell is the design architect and project manager.
He said the building would offer a combination of alfresco and casual dining experiences.
"It is going to contribute to the vibrancy of the dining experience in the CBD," Mr Teasdell said.
"This is such a huge positive contribution to the urban streetscape."
Mr Darzi hopes to employ between 30 and 50 staff and support local producers and fishers.
The majority of the trades involved in the build would be local, pending development consent.
