NSW Youth Week runs between April 10 and 18 and is shaping up to be bold and creative.
The week includes a range of events that are planned by young people, for young people, and are all about promoting inclusion, opportunities and having fun.
This year, thanks to Council's YOU'th Events Grants Program, funding of between $500 and $1,000 has been provided to youth groups to help spark the creation of new and never seen before Youth Week events.
Council group manager Lucilla Marshall said empowering the region's young people to take charge is a key focus of Youth Week.
"It's important that young people are recognised for their contributions, their voice is heard and that we embrace and foster their abilities to make real change," Ms Marshall said.
"Council is committed to supporting young people in our community through our youth grants program, and the incredible event ideas now coming to life as part of this year's celebrations will be something special.
"Our region is growing rapidly, and we're seeing an increase in the number of young people choosing to stay locally to pursue higher education and careers after school, so it's important we encourage our youth to get involved in building the future of our place."
Highlight activities developed by local youth groups, and funded by council include Street Artz Fest on April 13 on the grounds around the Girl Guides Hall and Mid North Coast Conservatorium on Hollingsworth Street, which is being setup by local TAFE event management students, showcasing all things urban arts and includes a makers market, street performances, graffiti battles, live music and more.
Rhi Rebllion will also be mentoring young people in a Youth Environmental Empowerment Program, designed to encourage and promote environmental change within schools, community groups and homes.
Other activities include a Moonlight Movie in Wauchope, the Cosplay and Manga Mania Art Exhibition at the Port Macquarie Library and free entry to the Port Macquarie Museum for people aged between 12 and 25.
"There's so much on and we're really encouraging our whole community to get on board, support and recognise the contributions of youth in our area during this year's celebrations," added Ms Marshall.
