The senior billings clerk was among 25 staff recognised when Port Macquarie Private Hospital celebrated its 40th birthday and staff service awards during a function at Sails Port Macquarie by Rydges on Saturday, March 30.
Mrs Gahan said her job always offered something different.
"I've never wanted to leave. I have never really given it a thought," she said.
"I've never woken up and not wanted to come to work.
"It's just something I love."
Mrs Gahan has notched up 35 years' service at the private hospital after starting work there as a 17-year-old.
She has seen the hospital's bed numbers and services grow over the years.
Port Macquarie Private Hospital chief executive officer Connie Porter said it was a true privilege to celebrate the dedicated service of many of the hospital's team members.
The hospital celebrated the service anniversaries of 25 staff with a combined tenure of more than 415 years.
"There is so much corporate memory, experience and expertise in the group which were celebrated on Saturday night," she said.
"The awards are an opportunity for the organisation to acknowledge and thank staff for their loyalty and commitment to the hospital and their contribution to our community."
