Mr Conaghan claimed (SMH 12/3) "If there's going to be taxpayer support for renewables, there should be taxpayer support for what is putting the most electricity into the grid, and that's coal". To make his position crystal clear he also claimed "Right now we need coal".
Mr Conaghan the last thing we need is to burn coal or for taxpayer funds to be spent on burning more coal. The evidence is overwhelming, burning coal is the single greatest contributor to the current ceaseless run of heatwaves our nation is enduring and burning coal is cooking our planet.
There are so many opportunities for the development of renewable energy industries in Cowper and around Australia. These industries will generate wealth and jobs, as evidenced by their deployment elsewhere on our planet. Mr Conaghan is publicly signalling his support for hanging a dead albatross around our necks.
Time for the electorate of Cowper to move somewhere beyond 1952.
