Celebrating Autism Awareness Day, children and educators wore blue to acknowledge the national day partaking in fun activities and games all with a blue theme.
Susanna Christie, director of Columba Cottage said the preschoolers had a lot of fun with the underpinning message focused accepting differences.
"Today is all about raising awareness about the fact there are lots of autistic children and adults in our community and trying to teach children that being different is okay," Ms Christie said.
"Everyone has different coloured eyes, mannerisms and skin colours and some people like to be touched and other don't so using simple language they understand is the key.
"In our preschool rooms this is something we talk a lot about because they are working out their boundaries.
"The other part of our awareness day is educating parents about autism. Each month we do a different fundraising or awareness event and at the beginning of the year one of our parents asked if we could look at autism in April and we loved the idea."
Kerrianne White is the learning enrichment coordinator at Columbia Cottage and said making autism normal is something that everyone should strive to do.
"In my role I support our educators and those children with special needs," Ms White said.
"At this age all children's behaviours are indicative of something and that is even more crucial in children with special needs.
"By having a day like this we are creating the awareness around autism and ensuring that it is not something to be afraid or scared of. The key message of today is that everyone is different and that is okay."
