There are pom-poms in trees and other red knitted items scattered around the Town Green in a Granny Graffiti project to start a conversation about dementia in conjunction with a regional dementia conference hosted by Omnicare Alliance.

Omnicare Alliance clients, carers and community members knitted the equivalent of two laundry baskets full of creations.

Signs explain the meaning behind the Granny Graffiti.

Omnicare Alliance community development officer Kara Nicholson said the significance of the Granny Graffiti installation was to draw attention to dementia and really start a conversation about dementia.

The knitted items will remain in place until the afternoon of Friday, March 29.

Ms Nicholson said the project was a chance for people to find out more information about the RED Conference, A Regional Experience in Practical Dementia Care and why it was so important to increase people's knowledge and education about dementia.

The conference runs from Thursday, March 28 to Friday, March 29 at Sails Port Macquarie.

World renowned Montessori for dementia expert Dr Cameron Camp and Lesley Palmer from Scotland's Stirling University are the keynote speakers.

There is also a pre-conference masterclass.
