The 33-year-old appeared via video link in the court on Thursday, March 21.
Black, of Oceanview Terrace, Port Macquarie was refused bail and remains in custody.
Black is accused of murdering Jacob John King at Port Macquarie on May 4, 2018.
The incident allegedly occurred at a premises in the vicinity of Rushcutter Way and Beacon Court.
King, 30, was located by emergency services personnel in a serious condition with critical stab wounds to his body.
NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed the injuries on site before transporting the victim to Port Macquarie Base Hospital where he later died.
Black will reappear via video link in Port Macquarie Local Court on May 23, 2019.
