Billy said it has been a long time coming and his passion for aviation started early, but it wasn't an easy process to obtain his Recreational Pilot Certificate.

"My passion for flying definitely came from my first flight overseas when I went to Hong Kong," Billy said.

"My family and I went on an Airbus A340-600 and ever since then I say I officially 'caught the bug'. It was on that flight I knew flying was what I want to do for the rest of my life.

"When I am in the air flying it feels amazing. Being above the ground and seeing everything that a bird sees is incredible.

"You get to see things that you can't see in a car and it is a truly rewarding experience that I can't wait to share with other people."

Billy said the best part about flying is the joy he gets from being above the clouds.

"I have always liked flying and the joy and reward of flying such a complex aircraft just thrills me," he said.

"Also having the responsibility of safety of all onboard to me seems like a very rewarding experience."

He said it was a fairly complicated process obtaining his pilot certificate as there was a lot of practical and theoretical components to the qualification.

"There was lot to learn from the ground up, about how an aircraft flies and controls along with learning all the emergency procedures," he said.

"I had to sit various exams to go over all the theory which then helped with the real physical flying as well.

"When it came to sitting the final flight test with chief flight instructor this final exam covered everything I had learned throughout my year and a half worth of training.

"This was probably the most stressful thing I have done but after a few stressed hours I was officially a licensed pilot."

Billy said it was pretty challenging to remember all this things needed to pass his qualifications but in the end he got there.

"I can't wait to share the world of aviation with others. The most challenging thing about learning to fly for me was remembering all the in flight and on the ground theory necessary. 

"One of my particular weaknesses as my instructor will know is crosswind landings. After doing them a lot I am getting better at them and like all things in aviation it takes practice.

The theory was also a hard thing to wrap around your head but if I can do it anyone can."

Billy said now that he has his certificate to fly the world is his oyster.

"Since obtaining my recreational certificate, I am allowed to fly RA-AUS registered aircrafts that weigh a maximum of 600kg.

"At the moment I fly a Aeroprakt A22LS as well and I am learning to fly The Flight Design CTLS.

"Flying is definitely something I would love to continue after school and my main career goal at the moment is to fly internationally with an airline.

"My friends think it is really cool and also a bit strange as I can fly a aircraft but I can't drive a car on a road.

"My family say its a weird thing for them to wrap their heads around and sometimes it is also a weird thing for me to wrap my own head around.

"But if it wasn't for my amazing instructor Mike Bullock and my friends and family I sure wouldn't be where I am today.

"I can't thank them enough for all their help. They have been more than amazing in helping and supporting me with everything."
