The focus on reducing electricity consumption is part of the international movement Earth Hour on Saturday, March, 30 at 8.30pm.
Local residents will be able to attend a special Earth Hour Dinner to celebrate being sustainable at the Rotary Community Centre on Hastings River Drive from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
The dinner is hosted by Climate Change Australia.
President Kerri-Ann Jones said the issue needed a united solution.
"Earth Hour started about 12 years ago in Australia and has spread throughout the world," she said.
"It's symbolic to turn the lights off as an opportunity to come together and recognise climate change.
"When we are united we can have an effect and we can make things happen.
"It's an opportunity to say 'I care and I want something to be done'."
CCA will be hosting the three course vegetarian by candle light dinner to encourage people to turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour as a symbol of commitment to the planet.
Tickets are $25 each, kids aged 10 and under are free but bookings are essential.
The event is catered by CCA and will feature live music played acoustically.
CCA committee member Angela Frimberger said being environmentally conscious was not always a big effort.
"Doing the right thing doesn't have to be a huge sacrifice," she said.
"The actions we need to take against climate change produce side benefits such as renewable energy.
"I see the beauty of Earth Hour as a symbol of that."
