A project aimed at reducing feral pests and invasive weeds around waterways in the Camden Haven is nearing completion and will be celebrated with a weeds, wildlife and wine evening.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's Estuarine Lakeside Linkages project aimed to reduce weeds and feral pests, such as foxes, and improve the habitat values of important wildlife corridors between the areas that link Dooragan (North Brother) Mountain with the coast.
The project was a great success and has seen many positive outcomes achieved such as the substantial reduction of the highly invasive camphor laurel which occurred in large numbers along the Hanley St Gully in Laurieton. The area is now returning to its previous status dominated by flooded gums, Bangalow palms and rainforest species.
To celebrate and thank the community for their ongoing support and assistance during the project, council in association with local Landcare groups and the Hastings Birdwatchers are inviting the community to attend a Weeds, Wildlife and Wine evening between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday, March 20 at the Laurieton United Services Club.
Council's ecologist Dr Rebecca Montague-Drake said the night is a great opportunity for local residents to learn about the precious flora and fauna thriving in the Camden Haven.
"The evening will allow residents to learn more about our local biodiversity in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, with opportunities to chat to local conservation and land management experts one-on-one," said Dr Montague-Drake.
"There'll also be a weed swap table hosted by Port Landcare, which is such a great idea, where people can bring photos of their garden, and have any weeds identified swapped with a native plant for free.
"From info about our region's key biodiversity areas, to backyard bird watching advice, there's lots on, and council invite anyone interested to learn more about the project or our local environment to drop-by and join the fun."
The event is free and includes nibbles, wine, beer and soft drinks.
The Estuarine Lakeside Linkages project was funded by council with contributions from North Coast Local Land Services and a NSW Government Coast and Estuaries Grant.
