People turned out to witness the mud crab races at Port City Bowling Club, as part of a fundraiser for the Cancer Council.
The event was on Sunday, March 17 and the race itself was over in seconds.
Ian Ross, principal of Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus is a participant in the 2019 Stars of the Hastings dance competition which aims to raise money for local Cancer Council projects.
As well as the dancing part of the commitment, Ian has set a challenge to raise $10,000 before the performance night, on April 5.
The event on Sunday, March 17 helped to raise $1400.
Ian said he was overwhelmed by the generosity of the Port Macquarie-Hastings community.
"Cancer impacts many members of our region," he said.
"It is hard to find a person that has not been touched by cancer in some way, either directly or indirectly.
"Cancer can take away a lot of things but never hope.
"Every cent counts and it is so important to combat this terrible disease and assist people who have been touched by cancer."
Ian gave a heartfelt thank you to Port City Bowling Club for donating their site and the sponsors who came on board.
"Everyone had a fun time while fundraising for a great cause," he said.
Ian will also be hosting a barbecue fundraiser at Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus on March 23 to coincide with the NSW state election.All funds raised will also go to the Cancer Council.
