It's all in the name of a Granny Graffiti project and boosting awareness about dementia in conjunction with a regional dementia conference hosted by Omnicare Alliance.

Omnicare Alliance clients, carers and community members are knitting all things red, including scarves and beanies, in preparation for the Town Green installation.

Omnicare Alliance Morton Street Centre client Shirley Dunn is among those busily knitting red creations.

Mrs Dunn said knitting kept you active and it was a good pastime.

"I love knitting and I've always knitted," she said.

The Town Green will be adorned with red-coloured knitted creations, from beanies to scarves, from March 25 to 29.

The community is welcome to join Omnicare Alliance team members on March 25 for a morning tea on the Town Green to discuss the conference and the Granny Graffiti project.

The installation will promote the RED Conference, A Regional Experience in Practical Dementia Care, start a conversation about dementia and highlight the importance of understanding.

The March 28 to 29 conference at Sails Port Macquarie features speakers, panellists and workshop presenters from Australia and overseas.

They will provide practical hands-on approaches to dementia care to support people to live well with dementia.

Montessori for dementia expert Dr Cameron Camp will return as one of the keynote speakers, while Lesley Palmer from Scotland's Stirling University is the other keynote speaker.

People living with dementia and their carers will also feature as speakers at the conference.
