The Green Bloods head into the Nambucca Challenge confident of replicating their success from last year when they registered two impressive performances against high-quality opposition.
They didn't progress to the knockout stage despite draws against West Pymble and eventual winners Coffs Tigers.
Coach Nathan Wade will have an undermanned squad at his disposal with regular first graders Harry Gordon, Simon Granfield, Eli Wade and Josh Moore all missing.
Their absence provides an opportunity for fringe first graders to stake a claim ahead of the season opener on March 30.
"If we had our full side available I'd be lying to say I wouldn't like to go close to winning this weekend," Wade said.
"We'll still go up there playing to win, but it's more a chance for some of those other players to play alongside our first graders."
United are drawn to play Nambucca Strikers first up, followed by Westlawn Tigers and Young Boys FC.
