Run out of McCosker House, the high school students run a fortnightly homework club designed to give younger students a break from the challenges they face at home.

Leader of the group Kyden Power-O'Toole said it is a good way for students to give back to the community.

"The homework club is a great opportunity for the kids coming or living at McCosker House to have some fun and do something productive after school," Kyden said.

"McCosker House is a homeless crisis accommodation centre in the Hastings and looks after a number of kids.

"I think it is great that we can go and provide them with a safe environment where they can learn but not have to think about the other stuff going on on in their lives.

"Our thing is KEEP, Kids engaged in education programs and that is something that we really are trying to help ensure happens."

Lily Burgmann and Nicola Di Bona said they both enjoy volunteering as they wants to give back and help others.

"At school we say never see a need with out doing something about it and I think this is one way we can help others in our community and especially young people," Lily said.

"I think it is about being the change you want to see in the world," Nicola said.

"These kids didn't choose to be in the position they are and if we can bring them some joy when we visit I think that is a good thing.

"One of my friends used the facilities at McCosker House and she said to me she remembers people going and running programs which helped her and I want to do the same for others."
