Matt Broderick opened the scoring in the ninth minute before the Bombers were reduced to 10 men following Tanjil Everett's straight red card for dissent.

The visitors then equalised through Brady Parker in the 94^th minute before they held their composure the longest from the spot.

But you got the impression it was coming as they were camped in the United half for most of the second stanza.

United team manager Damien Cross was happy with the performance of his side and said fatigue got the better of them.

"The hardest thing in football is defending a 1-0 lead against a quality side with 10 men," he said.

"We didn't intend to park the bus at all, they're just a good side and fatigue made us play a bit slower than we'd have liked to.

"In that second half we did get back on top but then conceded late."

The two teams were locked at 1-all after 60 minutes on Saturday afternoon before an electrical storm forced the abandonment of the fixture.

They lined up again 24 hours later.

"I think playing on Saturday the boys started to get a bit tired in the midfield in that second half (on Sunday)," Cross said.

"I don't think anything really went wrong, that's football, that's what happens.

"We're very happy with how the boys performed and looking forward to the year."

United lived dangerously before the late equaliser with goalkeeper Cameron Higham performing some high quality saves.

Eli Wade cleared the ball off the line while Boambee striker Luke France rattled the crossbar.

"If this is how we can play at the start of the year with only limited training and game exposure, then towards the middle and end of the year the boys are going to be running red hot," Cross said.

"I thought the boys did well to hold them out for the earlier chances they had and thought we could get there.

"We didn't like conceding right at the end, but penalties are penalties so you get what you get."
