Lisa McAdams' lived experience gives her a comprehensive depth of knowledge on the complex issue of domestic violence.
She has the commanding ability to communicate and manages to find some humour in her past. This skill allows Lisa to broach a subject that many shy away from, with a breadth of knowledge and honesty that is unlike anything else in today's conversation.
“I spent years working on my own recovery and learning all I could about domestic violence," Ms McAdams said.
"This made it possible for me to develop strategies and solutions to assist organisations address company culture, the financial and human cost of domestic violence."
Along with Lisa's talk, local women who continually strive for better gender balance will be honoured at the breakfast at Panthers, Port Macquarie.
Over the last seven years the breakfast has raised almost $65,000 for the local women and children’s crisis accommodation, run by Liberty Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Services.
Hastings Business Women’s Network President Kelly King said government and businesses are increasingly aware of gender issues in the workplace, such as providing domestic violence leave and support.
“Gender equality is not just a woman’s issue but must be addressed by the whole community," Mrs King said.
"We’re calling on men to come along to hear the inspiring stories of women who are pushing for progress."
2018 Hastings Heroine of the Year, Sue Jogever, said that International Women’s Day is all about recognising the immense talent of the women in our community.
"When my name was called out at the breakfast last year I was so proud to be able to stand in that room full of inspirational women doing great things and for me that is what International Women's Day is all about," she said.
"Us recognising that women are playing an important role in our community whether that be in the workplace, at home or in a volunteering capacity."
