RSPCA Port Macquarie is dropping its prices this weekend as part of the 'Clear the Shelters' campaign.
Most animals will be available for adoption at $29 and any animal usually priced $40 will be free.
Shelter manager Kerry Swift-McNair says they normally sell puppies for $370 so they are offering a "big discount".
The shelter currently has cats, kittens, adult dogs, puppies and guinea pigs on sale over the weekend.
Ms Swift-McNair said it was a busy time of year for the shelter.
"It is kitten season so lots of unwanted litter...and lots of unwanted puppies and dogs with people going on holidays and not organising boarding."
She warned that people considering purchasing an animal should keep in mind the ongoing costs with the maintenance of a pet.
"It can be a 16-20 year commitment, Ms Swift-McNair said.
"It involves looking after the pet for its life and includes worming and flea control, unexpected vet fees and so forth."
