Mr Lucas, who has lived and studied in Sydney for the past nine years said he'd always wanted to return home with new found musical skills.
"When I first arrived in Sydney and played ensembles, one of the conductors showed me how inspiring and amazing conducting can be to share a love of making music," he said.
"I've always wanted to come back and do something in town like this."
Mr Lucas returns with a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2014, around four years conducting experience and drive to lead the groups this year.
He has previously worked with Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and NSW Police Band - as well as being a founding member of the Sydney Ophicleide Quartet.
"At its very basic level the conductor starts and stops the group, picks the speed and adds other layers," he said.
"They have to know the piece and have the people skills to bring 20, 40 or 60 people with different ideas together for the same idea.
"To be the conduit between them, keeping it light-hearted but working hard."
MNCSA Inc meets for rehearsals on February 24 and April 7 at Westport Primary - philharmonic are on from noon to 1.30pm, while MNCYO and prelude orchestras practice from 2pm to 4pm.
"Anyone in town who wants another avenue for music, come by and join in," said Mr Lucas.
