Picking up a camera just a few years ago, Lachlan said he decided to give photo taking a go after his mum bought a camera but didn't use it.
"I just thought I'd have a go and see what would happen," Lachlan said.
"I think the thing I love the most is the freedom to be outside and doing something that you love.
"Most young people go straight for the internet to learn how to do things but I don't believe in learning from someone else when it comes to taking photos.
"For me it is all about experimenting with lighting and focus and taking photos of things that interest me."
Lachlan said that when he goes out to take photos he can go for an hour or five depending on when he leaves and what he is taking a photograph of.
"When I go out to take pictures I take around 1000 in an hour," he said.
"A few weeks ago I went out for five hours and took about 5,500 photographs which then took me nearly a week to edit because I still had to go to school.
"So there is really two parts to photo taking, the actual being outside and taking the photos but then the editing and going through all the images after."
He said his favourite things to take photos of are the ocean and wildlife.
"For me a good photo is one that you love. You don't need the most expensive equipment or anything like that. For me you just have to love it.
"A few people I know are pro bodyboarders so I really enjoy taking photos of them and the ocean but I love getting outdoors so wildlife and animals are also great to take photos of.
"I have also done some events and would love to continue that in the future. I am saving up to buy more cameras and lenses and I do photography before and after school everyday.
"At this stage I can't see myself doing anything other than photography in the future."
