It was a bovine showdown as a crew of four SES staff roped and dragged the young cow out of a muddy bog around 3.30pm on February 9.

Deputy unit commander Michael Brumby said a team was sent out to Telegraph Point, near Stoney Park for the cattle caper.

"It was called in around 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon, the younger cow was stuck in a creek with a boggy patch," he said.

"It was stuck with all four legs in quite thick mud, so we used a strap over back of shoulders then attached a rope.

"Pulled it up out of the mud with about four or five people on the rope.

"A crew of four staff attended the job, we've rescued cows, horses and other animals stuck in creeks before."

The rigorous rope rescue took about half an hour, and was the start of a engaging weekend for the unit with a number of downed trees, a leaking roof and storm damage call-outs.

"It was a busy weekend with three rescue jobs and four jobs for storm damage," said Mr Brumby.

"It was a pretty solid weekend."
