This was in line with the country, with more than 200 sites across the nation setting records for warmest average maximum temperatures.

The mean temperature in January, averaged across the country, exceeded 30 degrees for the first time ever for any month.

Meteorologist from Weatherzone, Kim Westcott said Port Macquarie’s mean overnight January temperature was recorded two degrees above average at 20 degrees. 

The mean January daytime temperature was 3.5 degrees above average for the month, at 31.2 degrees. 

Unfortunately Port Macquarie has not had a good bout of rain to kick start the year. 

Kim said only 8.4mm of rain fell across three days in January. The average amount of rainfall for January is 159mm across 12 days. 

However it’s not all bad news, with a positive bureau outlook for February. 

The average amount of rainfall for February is 188mm.

“According to the outlook there’s a 50 to 60 per cent chance Port Macquarie will match the average amount, or receive above average rain,” Kim said. 

However Kim said it’s likely Port Macquarie will experience higher than average daytime temperatures. 

The average daytime temperature for February is 27.6 degrees and the average nighttime temperature is 18.4.
