Mrs Lambert, whose membership of the Port Macquarie Dog Club has spanned about 25 years, teaches obedience through the club and holds the treasurer’s position.
Then there is Baxter.
He has two obedience titles, three titles in rally obedience, known as Rally-O, and 19 titles in agility and jumping.
Mrs Lambert said Baxter had been easy to teach because of his outgoing nature.
“We have an amazing bond between us,” she said.
Agility events, which are fun for both the owner and the dog, involve dogs negotiating obstacles from weaving poles to hoops, see-saws and tunnels.
“Agility is about a bond between you and your dog and your dog learning to read your body,” Mrs Lambert said.
“It is an adrenalin rush with agility.”
Mrs Lambert’s other Shetland Sheepdog, Koda, has two titles in Rally-O and 10 in agility and jumping.
Mrs Lambert has travelled with her dogs as far as Melbourne to attend events.
Meanwhile, the Port Macquarie Dog Club for more than 40 years has offered members a range of classes, events and competitions.
Mrs Lambert said involvement in the club led to better behaved dogs and dogs which were socialised with other dogs and people.
The club staged a dog agility and obedience demonstration during Australia Day.
The group aims to offer a safe, fun environment for dog owners to learn how to become better dog citizens, while also giving those who wish to explore dog sports the opportunity to participate and compete to gain titles for their dogs.
