A QUICKFIRE 39 at the top of the order from Wingham captain Michael Rees proved the difference as his side claimed a 31-run win over Macquarie Hotel on Saturday.

In the Premier League T20 final, Wingham were bowled out for 129 in the 18th over before their bowlers did the job and dismissed Macquarie for 98.
Harrison Clarke (24) provided support for Rees after Macquarie captain Josh Hyde won the toss and elected to field.
Hyde felt Rees would be the key to victory and that was how the game panned out although he was still confident of chasing 130 to win.
“When I had a look at the deck I thought 150 was a par score,” he said.
The absence of some of their regular Premier League stars didn’t help the Macquarie cause.
“Depth hurt us,” Hyde said.
“But credit to Wingham for travelling up here full-strength on a long weekend when some of our blokes went away.”
Wingham were in early trouble at 2-13 when Brock Hynds and Ben Cole fell cheaply, but it was Rees who was the glue that held the innings together.
“We had to take responsibility a bit and we didn’t,” Hyde said.
Macquarie spinner Chris Cole claimed two wickets along with Luke Boxhall.
Boxhall and Cole started the chase for victory in quick fashion, putting on a 34-run opening stand before Cole (23) became David Rees’ first wicket.
Wickets then fell at regular intervals.
“We were our own worst enemy and went about our business the wrong way,” Hyde said.
Steve Allwood (4-14 off four overs) and Mick Stinson (2-15 off three overs) were the pick of the Wingham bowlers.
