Tending to their garden, they found a nest of more than 20 snake eggs hidden under the mulch and quickly called snake catchers to help.
Local snake catcher Nadia Amara, from Sydney Snake Catchers, said the concerned resident requested her help.
“It was in the afternoon on Friday that we got the call for help,” Ms Amara said.
“At first the gardener didn’t really know what they were but it soon became clear that a python had laid more than 20 eggs under the warm mulch.”
The snake and the eggs have been moved to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital to keep incubated.
“The Koala Hospital have been great and immediately said they would help the snake,” she said.
“After pulling the non-venomous snake and the eggs out from the mulch we only have a certain amount of time to ensure the eggs stay warm.
“We are all hopeful the eggs will hatch soon.”
Ms Amara said people need to be careful if they do come across snakes or snake eggs.
“If people see a snake they need to always keep a safe distance from it.
“If the snake is outside put all children and animals inside and call a snake catcher for help. If you can keep an eye on the snake then snake catchers have a better idea of where to start looking.
“If the snake is in the house try and isolate it to one room.”
