Before 8am, on January 18, an overhead wire snapped on the corner of Warlters and Aston Streets – behind Kmart, next to St Joseph’s Primary – and a crew from Essential Energy were sent to asses the situation.
“Customers in parts of Port Macquarie were affected by an unplanned power interruption following a fault on the electrical network being detected,” a spokesperson for Essential Energy said.
“Network protection equipment operated automatically isolating the power supply to 2,058 customers located on the North Shore, along Hastings River Drive, Settlement Point Road, Park Street and streets close by.
“Essential Energy crews responded immediately securing the safety of the site and carried out the necessary network repairs.”
Power was restored to all majority of customers in just over one hour and is expected to be fully restored by lunch.
A planned power outage was scheduled for today and Essential Energy say 117 customers (who were notified) will be without power for most of the day.
At this stage the power for those residents is expected to be resorted by 3pm.
Essential Energy reminds anyone who sees a fallen or damaged powerline to stay at least eight metres away from the site and to call Essential Energy on 13 20 80.
