The annual Stars of the Hastings is a dancing and fundraising event which pits local celebrities against each other in a battle of rhythm and fun.
Over the last five years more than $320,000 has been raised by the Hastings community for the local community.
At the event launch on January 15, Katie Mead from the Cancer Council said they are hoping for another stellar fundraising year.
“This is the sixth annual Stars of the Hastings in Port Macquarie and this year, once again, we have some really exciting local personalities and dance schools involved,” Ms Mead said.
“Our dance stars are all buzzing and are excited to get started both learning their dance and fundraising.”
The 2019 line-up this year includes Richard Baker from the Tap House group, Ian Ross representing Hastings Secondary College, Vanessa Lawrence from The Style Vibe, AJ Davis from The Party Professionals, Alfred Portenschlager representing Tafe NSW, Natalie Junge from the Light House Medical Centre, Tim Joyce from Elders Real Estate, Kiel Bigeni of Men and Work, Lach Falvey representing Falvey Kay Lawyers and Shelley Lang from Essential Energy.
Ian Ross from Hastings Secondary School said he was keen to get a start on dancing and fundraising.
“We all know the impact cancer can have on people and collectively we can make a difference together,” Mr Ross said.
“I guess I am a little apprehensive about it all but Cancer Council is such a great cause and anything I can do to help I will.”
Kiel Bigeni said when he got the phone call he said yes right away.
“When I got the call I said why not. It is such a great opportunity to do something big to help others,” Mr Bigeni said.
“I have two left feet but hopefully it will be a lot of fun.”
Richard Baker also said he was keen to give something new a try.
“It is such a great cause and having seen the event in the past I am excited to give it ago myself,” Mr Baker said.
“It seems like so much fun and I can’t wait!”
Ms Mead said the event would not be possible without the support of the local dance schools and their teachers who give up their time to support and teach the stars.
“A special thank you to La Vive Studios, Port Macquarie Performing Arts, ExtravaDance Studios, Salsa Footprints, Mandy Davison Dance Fitness, AllStars Studio and Movement Studios, whom without, this event would not happen,” she said.
“Also a big thank you must go to our sponsors Rydges Port Macquarie, Port Macquarie News, Holiday Coast Credit Union, Little Glimpses Photography, Port Trophies and Cassegrain Winery who help ensure we can put on this great event.”
The Stars of the Hastings will be held at Rydges Port Macquarie on Friday, April 5. Tickets are on sale from January 29.
