A 66-year-old man drowned at Boomerang Beach this afternoon.
The man was pulled from the water at about 1.20pm by Surf Live Saving NSW lifesavers.
The man was unresponsive to CPR and was later pronounced dead.
Paramedics and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were called to the site.
Paramedics said the man was swimming between the flags.
The incident is under investigation and has been referred to the coroner.
The summer has been particularly tragic across the nation.
As of yesterday there had been 59 drowning deaths reported in Australia this summer. That is an increase of 18 on the same time last year, Royal Life Saving Australia says.
