The popular event is an annual fixture on the Bago Vineyards calendar with the trophy, complete with the winners’ plaques, taking pride of place on the cellar door wall.

The gates open at 10am on February 10 with BK Blue providing musical entertainment from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

The Lasiandra Festival Committee will run a sausage sizzle.

The media grape stomp gets the action underway at noon, followed by the open grape stomp.

Bago Vineyards spokesperson Ian Adams said there was no secret to grape stomping success.

“It’s just a matter of not losing too much down between the toes,” he said.

Teams of two people stomp the grapes for 60 seconds, then are given a further 30 seconds to squeeze the remaining juice from the grapes.

The winner is the team with the most grape juice at the end. 

Melissa Price and John Faalavoay hold the record of 7.1 litres set in 2012.

Two-time grape stomping champion Brad Smith returned to claim his crown in 2018 taking out the annual competition with team-mate Oscar Guardado.

The Port News was named media grape stomp champions in 2018 with Prime 7 close behind in second place and the Wauchope Gazette third.
