They are calling on all boat owners on the Mid North Coast to make sure they remove their fishing and boating equipment from their vessels when not in use.

In particular the thefts have occurred between Blackmans Point through the Hastings and down into the Camden Haven.

Thieves are targeting boats on trailers for rods and reels, depth sounders/fishfinders, life jackets, fridges and tackle boxes said Inspector Mic Aldridge.

He said with the increased number of people coming to town for the holidays police do get a rise in reports of missing and stolen items.

“In recent weeks we have seen a spike in these reports so we are warning people to be alert and to secure your items, keep them locked up and safe,”  Inspector Aldridge said.

“With more people in town during the holidays don't make yourself an easy target for thieves.”

He said an easy way to ensure property is not stolen was to ensure items stay inside your home, locked cabin or caravan and not in an open annexe when not in use.
