The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a strong wind warning for the coast covering Friday and Saturday.
On Friday northerly winds will reach 20 to 25 knots, increasing to 30 knots during the afternoon and evening.
Seas will be 2 to 3 metres on a 1 metre swell.
It will be similar conditions - although seas will be 2.5 to 3 metres - on Saturday.
Port Macquarie lifeguard supervisor James Turnham says the increase in wind, swell and wave heights will see more rip currents forming.
"The slight swell increase will mean that rip currents become stronger," he said.
"Lifeguards and volunteer surf lifesavers advise to swim to waist deep water only.
"We are in for a fairly windy afternoon with Lighthouse Beach providing the most protection.
"Like everyone, we are looking forward to a southerly wind change on Sunday morning, however that is only expected to prevail for 24 to 48 hours.
"We will see that north easterly wind kick back in again."
Meteorologist with weatherzone Kim Westcott says Friday's outlook includes a mostly sunny day with a maximum temperature of 29 degrees.
But it will still be quite a warm day, topping out at 32 degrees, along the coast but quite a bit warmer for inland areas.

"Saturday is likely to see a very slight chance of a shower later in the day although it looks likely that you could receive as little as 1-2mm.
"But it will still be quite a warm day topping out at 32 degrees along the coast but quite a bit warmer for inland areas.
"Coastal areas will enjoy some cooler onshore winds."
Ms Westcott said Sunday will be mostly sunny but characterised by a change in wind direction from a humid north easterly to a south westerly.
That should bring a slight drop in temperatures, she said.
"Sunday will see a maximum of around 30 degrees but you will notice some difference in the two air masses (from Saturday to Sunday).
"There is also a chance of a shower either on Sunday night or into Monday morning.
"That rain will be patchy at best with between 1-5mm. It will be a bit of a hit and miss affair," she said.
Minimum temperatures through to Sunday will hover between 20 and 21 degrees.
