However for those whose marks may not have reached their expectations, there are many options still ahead.
Donna Judge, community engagement lead at headspace Port Macquarie, said the local branch has had an upturn in calls asking for help during this time.
“For young people who have just finished their HSC the last few years has been gearing towards this moment and it can be extremely tough finding out you didn’t do as well as you hoped or expected,” Ms Judge said.
“First off we want to remind all students that their final school grade doesn’t define you and support is available to navigate this tough time if needed.
“It might be hard right now but school results are just a number even if it can be hard to think about it. We are always happy to have a chat with people who might be struggling mentally and this time of year is really hard.”
In the last financial year headspace Port Macquarie saw 652 young people who were struggling with their mental and physical health.
Ms Judge said if work and study is beginning to affect a young person’s mental health it is important for them to know that they can access professional support through their GP, local headspace centre or eheadspace.
“The move from school to study or the workforce is a big transition and can impact a young person’s mental health and wellbeing dramatically,” she said.
“This time can bring up lots of questions about the future, pathways and next steps and we can help young people find out where to get the best information about what is next.
“There are also services available to support young people in work or study aspirations and helping them with their preparation to enter employment or further study.
“And if you don’t want to come into our office head online to eheadspace and access help over the internet.”
