Tacking Point never got going after they batted first, eventually being dismissed for 63 in the 22nd over.
Last year’s PSSA champions had little trouble in chasing the 64 required for victory for the loss of just one wicket in the 12th over.
Despite the loss, coach Xanthe Kerr remained satisfied to have made the top two schools in the state.
“The girls played incredibly well and to finish second in the state, I’m really proud,” she said.
“Wellington were just very tough to beat; they do a lot of work out there for girls cricket which is great to see and they just knew what our batsmen were going to do.”
Kerr said Tacking Point’s bowling effort was strong, but the difference came in the field.
“Wellington were really responsive, but I’m proud our girls did as much as they did.”
Tacking Point qualified for the final after dispatching Eleebana Public School by 54 runs in the semi-final.
Alex Mavros was the star with the bat, forced to retire on 42 in the team’s total of 8-112 off their 25 overs.
Eleebana were them bowled out for 58 in the 22nd over with Ruby Bryant (2-3 off two overs) and Ada Bella-Jones (2-8) the stars.
Lara Inman took two catches in the victory.
“It was a really good bowling effort and we only had 18 sundries,” Kerr said.
Next year, Tacking Point will field a vastly different side with just three of the players set to return.
“Hopefully the older girls can continue at high school,” Kerr said.
