On December 4, volunteers and their service providers enjoyed a Christmas party designed to thank the volunteers and let them catch up with each other said Volunteer HQ coordinator Nuscha Van Nieuwkerk.
“The Christmas party is a great opportunity for the volunteers who do different things to come together and mingle before the Christmas period really begins,” Ms Van Nieuwkerk said.
“We have such a great relationship with our volunteers and service providers we just wanted to bring them all together and say thank you for all the hard work they put in over the year.
“Volunteering is always needed in our community and our communities would not be the same without dedicated volunteers who give up their time to help others.”
Ms Van Nieuwkerk said Volunteer HQ is the first place people go after they decided they want to give back to the community.
“We are the first stop when people decide to volunteer in their community and we are then able to talk to them about where they would like to volunteer and then we help get connected to services who need extra help,” she said.
“With more than 250 volunteering roles available in the Hastings region services are always searching for more volunteers.
“This year we had more than 80 service providers connect with us looking for help so we are able to offer those looking to volunteer a wide range of options to choose from when they come to us.”
She said that as thoughts move for 2019 she hopes Mid North Coast Volunteer HQ can develop more connections with young people wishing to volunteer.
“Young people and youth is our future so that is definitely one area where I will be focusing my time next year to see if we can bring more younger people into the volunteering community.”
