Christmas really does bring out the best in people as struggling families in Wauchope are about to discover.
For the second year in a row, Bundaleer Care Services have put the call out to their staff, residents, clients and business partners, asking them to contribute to the Bundaleer “Act of Christmas Kindness - Christmas Hamper drive” in an effort to make a real difference in the lives of local families.
“Working with the Wauchope Neighbourhood Centre has really opened our eyes to the struggles that local families are experiencing.
“We know that with increasing homelessness and families struggling, the sad reality is there are lots of our local families that won’t be expecting to have the happy festive season that they so richly deserve” says Bundaleer’s Beth Stitt-Hatton.
“We are thankful to our incredible staff, residents, clients and business partners for their support in helping us create some pretty amazing Christmas hampers that we hope will spread some Christmas cheer where it’s sorely needed.
“At Bundaleer, we truly believe that ‘You Matter’, and we welcome the opportunity to give back to our local community.
“The Wauchope Neighbourhood Centre does such a great job all year round, so it’s lovely to be able to provide this extra level of support during the holiday period and help make sure that Christmas is a little merrier for everyone.”
The Wauchope Neighbourhood Centre is a community-based organisation providing links to community services, advocacy, volunteering, local programs and emergency relief for local families in need.
Regina Evans, Co-ordinator at the Wauchope Neighbourhood Centre welcomes the support from Bundaleer and is excited by the opportunity to provide something extra special to their families for Christmas.
“The Bundaleer hampers will be a godsend for our families who rely on the weekly Food Connect program. This is a program run by volunteers and every Monday morning families who might need a little support are able to pick up bread, milk, fruit and vegetables sourced locally by Oz Harvest and big-hearted locals with a surplus of home-grown veggies.
“On average we help between 25-30 families every week – but sometimes as many as 50 families might need our help.
“In the lead up to Christmas, it is likely to be a higher than average number of families looking to share in our emergency relief.
“Last year’s hampers were fantastic – the perfect mix of personal care items and delicious goodies for a Christmas feast and we look forward to being able to hand these out to our families and really make a difference.”
