Port City Bowling Club and Triple M teamed up for an Octobra fundraising initiative in support of the Hastings Cancer Trust.
The club received about 1700 donations of bras after calling for bra donations in October, and in turn, $1 for every bra received went to the Hastings Cancer Trust.
The new bras were donated to the Hastings Women and Children’s Refuge.
Money raised from the five-week corporate Jack Attack event contributed to the final fundraising total of more than $3000 for the Hastings Cancer Trust.
Port City Bowling Club chief executive officer Russell Stockham said supporting the Octobra event was a feel-good thing for people and they didn’t have to contribute anything other than bras.
He said the attraction of the Hastings Cancer Trust was the money stayed in the community.
Triple M breakfast announcer Mark Strachan said the local nature of the Hastings Cancer Trust resonated with people.
The Hastings Cancer Trust funds a variety of local projects which support cancer patients, their carers and the facilities which support and treat them.
The trust’s fundraising coordinator, Steve Thomas, thanked Triple M and Port City Bowling Club for their support.
“This [donation] will form part of our funding that is available for our 2019 grants process where local cancer support services and groups are welcome to apply for funding specific to their needs and requirements,” he said.
