The annual report provides a snapshot of the chamber’s activities and achievements up until the end of the last financial year.
The report said the chamber argued the orbital road was an appropriate project to receive state and/or Commonwealth financial assistance due to its significance as a regional infrastructure project.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council opened public consultation on November 22 about the proposed orbital road which would relieve traffic congestion, particularly on Lake Road, Ocean Drive and the Oxley Highway.
The orbital road is proposed as an east-west link (Ocean Drive to Oxley Highway), a north-south link (Oxley Highway to Boundary Street) and a flood-free route to the Port Macquarie Airport.
The project is in the early stages of development and the final route has yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, the Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce’s annual report said central to chamber’s activity continued to be its role as the premier local business advocate, pursuing issues and opportunities that would build a healthy economy and improve the quality of life in our community.
The chamber has consulted with and represented member views on a broad range of issues.
Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce staged its annual general meeting on November 27.
Executive officer Mark Wilson said the chamber had a full board of 12 going forward for this year with a fantastic mix of experience and people wanting to make a contribution to the chamber’s activities.
The annual report showed the chamber had 252 members as of June 30, 2018.
Membership is up from 194 in 2017.
Michael Mowle, in his president’s report, said his inaugural year as president was one of change for chamber and one, which they hoped you would agree, had seen some significant improvements and benefits to our members.
“I am delighted to report that chamber membership and networking event attendance increased substantially during the year,” the president’s report said.
“In citing this growth, the solid groundwork achieved by past board and staff members must be acknowledged, as they provided a perfect foundation from which to build on and allow chamber to continue to deliver a high standard of representation to members.”
The president’s report also paid tribute and gave thanks to the late Wayne Jackson for his dedication, skill and outstanding contributions to the chamber and the local business community.
