The Wauchope-Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club’s life member ran second in heat one of the 70+ men’s beach sprint on Wednesday.
While he didn’t medal in the finals, club president Phil Kaufmann said it was a strong performance.
“I hope I’m as fit as him at 82 years of age,” he said.
The club’s ladies ski relay team of Gayl Ellis, Elaine Walker and Deb Bartlett then won bronze in cool and wet conditions that saw events cancelled temporarily.
The club’s under-19 female boat crew will take to the water on Saturday, hoping for conditions to improve.
“The locals are saying it’s the worst storm they’ve had in a couple of years,” boat sweep Steve Monaghan said.
“We were expecting a flat lake, but instead we’ve got swell and wind chop; the A-grade crews would even struggle out there.”
